- Voltage: 12V (transformer required) or 120V line-voltage (electrician recommended)

Quick choosing guide
- Map the zones: stairs (safety first), perimeter rails, seating, and feature walls.
- Pick the form: louvered step lights for low-glare stairs; slim strips for under-rail; post caps for markers; recessed dots for “star” effects.
- Set brightness/CCT: 2700–3000K feels cozy; target 20–60 lm on stairs and 60–120 lm for task edges.
- Choose voltage: 12V is DIY-friendly—size the transformer for total watts + ~20% headroom. Use 120V only where code and access allow.
- Plan spacing: step lights every 3–4 treads (or one per tread); under-rail ~3–5 ft between nodes; post caps on each post or alternating.
