1. Size for what’s inside: count valves/parts and leave room for unions and future service.
2. Pick the duty: standard for lawns & beds; heavy-duty for high-traffic or equipment areas.
3. Choose the lid: green for potable systems; purple where code calls out reclaimed water.
4. Depth & access: use deep boxes/risers for tall filters/regulators and to keep fittings above standing water.

Pro tips: Set boxes on a compacted gravel base for drainage, keep lids flush with finished grade, and avoid burying splice kits below waterline. Label the lid (zone or “reclaimed”) and leave slack in tubing/wire for service.
