Quick choosing guide

1. Match diameter & mount: most residential pump ends use NEMA 4" motors; larger flows may require 6". Verify shaft/spline and bolt pattern.
2. Pick phase & voltage: 2-wire single-phase = no external control box; 3-wire single-phase = requires a matched control box; three-phase = best with VFD/soft-start and long cable runs.
3. Size HP to the pump curve: choose the motor horsepower that matches your pump end at the required GPM and TDH (total dynamic head). Check the motor’s thrust rating against the pump end.
4. Power quality & protection: add lightning/surge protection and a pump protector (under/over-voltage, dry-run). Use VFD-rated motors/cable when on a drive.
5. Cooling & installation: ensure minimum water flow past the motor. Use a flow sleeve in large-diameter wells, cisterns, or horizontal installs.
6. Cable & splices: select submersible pump cable sized for amp draw and length; make waterproof splices with heat-shrink kits.
