Hardscapes

Hardscape lighting creates clean, low-glare lines along seat walls, retaining walls, steps, and outdoor kitchens. Shop slim under-cap fixtures that disappear beneath stone caps, step/tread wall lights with louvers or shields, and the mounting plates, lenses, and hardware to install it right on a 12-volt system.

How to choose

  1. Match voltage: most hardscape pieces are 12V low-voltage; confirm transformer capacity with 20–30% headroom.
  2. Pick output & spread: select lumen level and length to avoid hot spots; use louvers/shields on stairs.
  3. Choose finish: brass for patina & coastal durability; powder-coated bronzes/blacks for modern stone palettes.
  4. Plan wiring: route direct-burial cable with service loops, waterproof every splice, and balance runs to limit voltage drop.

Pro tips: Dry-fit caps and fixtures first, then set a consistent reveal (⅛–¼"). Space lights 4–6 ft apart for continuous glow, closer on stairs. Keep LEDs out of mortar joints, use gel-filled connectors, and leave a hidden service loop behind the cap for future swaps. Always verify wet-location rating and balance runs to keep brightness even.
