How to Choose (Fast)

  1. Identify the water type: Clear water (sump), sewage (2″ solids), or grinder (macerates solids).
  2. Calculate TDH: Vertical lift + friction losses (pipe length, fittings, check valve).
  3. Match the curve: Use the model’s performance curve to meet your target GPM at TDH.
  4. Confirm power/cord/controls: Auto float vs. hardwired panel; cord length; 115/230 V per model.
  5. Add protection: Backup pump (battery or water-powered) and a quiet check valve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a sewage or a grinder pump?

Sewage pumps pass 2″ solids and work great for typical basement bathrooms/lift stations. Grinder pumps macerate solids to slurry and are preferred for high head or long runs where clogging would be a risk.

How do I size a Zoeller pump?

Calculate Total Dynamic Head (TDH) (vertical lift + friction loss) and match your required GPM at TDH to the model’s performance curve.

Should I add a backup?

If outages or storms are common, yes. Choose Aquanot® Spin 508 (battery) or 540 FLEX® (water-powered, municipal water required).

What basin size should I use?

Most residential sumps perform best with a minimum 18″ × 22″ basin. Always verify clearances for the float and plumbing.
